About VisionSpace

VisionSpace is a dynamic consulting, technology and engineering company delivering solutions and services for the Space and Defence sectors. We work across satellite operations, ground data systems, ground stations, automation, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

Our motto is Space and Beyond is Our Playground. We empower our customers to shape the future of satellite operations by bringing automation and intelligence into operational systems.

About the Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our team supporting the OPSPREP service at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany.

The position involves supporting the software tools used within the OPSPREP service, particularly in the areas of database and procedure management.

We are open to both junior and senior Software Engineers. More important than a specific level of seniority is a solid technical foundation, the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks, and a genuine willingness to learn and work with a combination of established and modern technologies.

This is a great opportunity for a software engineer who wants to apply and further develop their technical skills within an operational space environment.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the development, maintenance and evolution of software tools supporting the OPSPREP service.

  • Supporting applications related to database and procedure management.

  • Developing and maintaining software using technologies such as Java, TypeScript, Python and SQL.

  • Analysing technical and operational requirements and translating them into effective software solutions.

  • Investigating software issues and supporting troubleshooting and resolution activities.

  • Contributing to the maintenance and improvement of existing applications and tools.

  • Working with both established and newer technologies, depending on the operational systems being supported.

  • Contributing to software testing, integration and technical documentation.

  • Collaborating with engineers and operational stakeholders within the EUMETSAT environment.

  • Taking ownership of assigned activities and delivering them with a high degree of independence.

What We Look For

We are looking for candidates with a solid software engineering foundation. You do not need to tick every box, particularly when it comes to previous space-sector experience.

Technical Experience

Ideally, you will bring experience or practical knowledge in several of the following areas:

  • Software engineering and software development.

  • Java development.

  • TypeScript development.

  • Python development.

  • SQL and relational databases.

  • Database-related applications and data management.

  • Development, maintenance and troubleshooting of operational software.

  • Software testing and debugging.

  • Version control and collaborative software development environments.

  • Working with existing or legacy software while contributing to its continued evolution.

Hands-on experience across all four core technologies is not necessarily required, but candidates should have a strong software development foundation and the ability and willingness to quickly become familiar with technologies they have not previously used.

Space Domain Experience

Previous experience in the space sector is a plus, particularly in areas such as:

  • Satellite or spacecraft operations.

  • Operational ground segment software.

  • Mission operations preparation.

  • Procedure management systems.

  • Database management within an operational environment.

  • EUMETSAT or ESA projects, systems or tools.

  • Previous experience with EUMETSAT/OPSPREP-specific tools.

Previous space or EUMETSAT experience is desirable but not mandatory.

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline.

  • Relevant professional experience in a similar role is a plus.

Personal Skills

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is able to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks.

  • Has strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Is a fast learner and comfortable becoming familiar with unfamiliar technologies and systems.

  • Is curious and willing to work with both new and established technologies and approaches.

  • Takes a structured and reliable approach to software development and troubleshooting.

  • Has good attention to detail.

  • Can communicate effectively with engineers, technical teams and operational stakeholders.

  • Works well as part of a multidisciplinary and international team.

  • Has English language proficiency at C1 level or above, both written and spoken.

Additional Requirements

  • Candidates must have the right to work in the European Union.

  • This is a full-time, on-site position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany.

  • Candidates must therefore be willing and able to work regularly from the EUMETSAT premises.

  • Availability to start in January 2027 is required.

  • Application deadline: 13-11-2026

Ready to join us?

If you are passionate about software engineering and would like to apply your skills to real-world space operations, we'd love to hear from you.

Whether you are a junior engineer looking to grow within the space sector or an experienced software engineer looking for a new technical challenge, we encourage you to apply.

You do not need to have previous space experience or know every technology in the stack. A strong software engineering foundation, independence, curiosity and the ability to learn quickly may be exactly what we're looking for.
